In addition to enriching existing scientific knowledge, this study will support the development of intervention strategies to reduce the use of restraint and confinement on the basis of subjective biases (i.e., a reflexive practice). In the past, reduced restraint and confinement has been associated with fewer injuries among youth and staff, less staff turnover, greater staff satisfaction, and greater success in youth rehabilitation.
